Memories of Puerto Rico 1985-2005
A Reporter Looks back
By Barbara Tasch Ezratty
For more than 20 years, Tasch Ezratty wrote ‘soft’ news for three newspapers Caribbean Business, San Juan Star, El Nueva Día - in San Juan; one magazine (Tables Magazine: Puerto Rico’s Guide to Great Dining) and one radio station (Radio WOSO: 1030 AM).
As a feature writer, she covered the daily life of the island, interviewing people and writing about what they told her. Soon she had her own column where she wrote about what she witnessed, participated in, and liked – or didn’t like. Her restaurant reviews led to more involvement in the culinary scene on the island.
Join her in a trip down memory lane to the island of Puerto Rico as it was in the 1970s, ‘80s, and ‘90s. See- or remember - what life was like back then.

Puerto Rico: An Oral History 1898-2008
110 years of life on la isla
Edited by Barbara Tasch Ezratty
The changes brought about when the Spanish and American cultures began to merge in 1898 and the effect of those changes on the lives of the citizens of Puerto Rico is documented by some who lived through them. These oral memories of life on the island during the first 50 years of the 20th Century take us back to the time when changes affected islanders at every level.
Changes on the island during the second half of the 1900s are related by people who often contributed to those changes.
The people of Puerto Rico have lived through 400 years of Spanish occupation and a life-changing War at the end of the 19th Century; through the Great Depression, global wars and the American influence in the 20th Century. Now they have arrived in the 21st Century changed yet again by the accomplishments of their myriad citizen-leaders. This is their story.

Baltimore in the Civil War
The Pratt Street Riot and a City Occupied
By Harry Ezratty
On April 19, 1861, the first blood of the Civil War was spilled in the streets of Baltimore. En-route to Camden Station, Union forces were confronted by angry Southern sympathizers, and at Pratt Street, the crowd rushed the troops, who responded with lethal volleys. Four soldiers and twelve Baltimoreans were left dead.
Marylanders unsuccessfully attempted to further cut ties with the North by sabotaging roads, bridges and telegraph lines. In response to the “Battle of Baltimore,” Lincoln declared martial law and withheld habeas corpus in much of the state.
Author Harry Ezratty skillfully narrates the events of that day and their impact on the rest of the war, when Baltimore became a city occupied.

Seaman's Handbook of Rights
By Harry A. Ezratty
Seamen are plagued by the same problems time after time, in port after port. And because of the unique nature of his work, he has often been taken advantage of. Yet seamen have many rights; laws developed over the centuries for his protection. Protection that could save him needless pain, time, and money.
Many books have been written about seamen. No books have been written for seamen. There are technical volumes for layers -- they fill shelves. But there is no book a seaman can put in his back pocket, to use in a crucial moment. We hope this book fills that need.
